Sharjah to build Dh2bn sustainable city

First phase of the solar-powered project will be completed by the last quarter of 2021

Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in partnership with a Dubai real estate company, plans to build a Dh2 billion sustainable city, it said on Wednesday.

Spread over 668,902 square metres, Sharjah Sustainable City will be completed in four different phases. Located nearly 11km from the Sharjah International Airport, the city will be completely solar powered and recycle its waste and water..

“Construction will start in the next three months and the first phase will be finished by the last quarter of 2021. Remaining phases will be completed in the next one to two years,” Faris Saeed, chief executive of Diamond Developers, told The National.

The sustainable city will house various amenities such as residential clusters, mall, farm, school and sports facilities.
